Celebrate Gaypril 2012

Goucher College is raising awareness of gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender issues with a month-long series of programs. Everyone is welcome to attend any of these events, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Saturday, March 31

8:30-10 p.m., Hillel Student Center, Stimson Hall

Slam Poet: Jessica Genia Simon

Join us for a night of powerful, thought-provoking slam poetry by DC poet Jessica Genia Simon. Goucher student Ang Buxton will open the show with poetry related to genderqueer identity and coming out. This event will address the complexity of intersecting identities and is co-sponsored by PRISM and Goucher Hillel.

Out and Abroad

7-8:30 p.m., Batza Room, the Athenaeum

Curious about LGBT life abroad? Interested in hearing from LGBT students and alumnae/i about their study-abroad experience? PRISM and the Office of International Studies will be hosting a panel for prospective study-abroad students.

  

Monday, April 9

PRISM Ice Cream Social

7-8:30 p.m., Geen Community Room

Come out and socialize with LGBT students, alumnae/i, and faculty on campus. Ice cream and refreshments will be provided.

           

Wednesday, April 18

Athens Boys Choir & Rocco Katastrophe Concert

7-10 p.m.

Merrick Lecture Hall

Come out to "F to eMbody," featuring the transmasculine performers Athens Boys Choir and Rocco Katastrophe. Through multimedia spoken-word and hip-hop performances, they explore controversial themes of gender identity and sexual orientation.

 

Thursday, April 19

Day of Silence

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Pearlstone Atrium

Come out and support the members of Goucher's LGBT community as we observe the national Day of Silence. On this day, LGBT students and allies will take a vow of silence to call attention to sexual orientation- and gender identity-based discrimination in schools. The silence will represent the silencing effect bullying can have on young LGBT-identified or questioning students. Stop by Pearlstone Atrium and pledge your support alongside members of PRISM.

PRISM Meeting: Breaking the Silence

8-9:30 p.m., Geen Community Room

Come out and support your peers in reflection on the experience of silence and what it means to the LGBT community.

 

Saturday, April 21

Drag Ball

7-10 p.m., MICA's Black Box Theatre in The Gateway, 1601 W. Mount Royal Ave., Baltimore, MD 21217

Get dressed in drag and dance at Goucher and MICA's annual Drag Ball. This year's show will be held at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). We will be meeting at the Collegetown Shuttle stop, behind Stimson, at 5:50 p.m. and taking the 6:05 p.m. shuttle. The show will feature a runway for a best costume and lip-syncing contest, as well as a DJ and refreshments. Fee is "$1 for drag, $3 for drab."

Goucher's Fifth Annual Rainbow Reception

6-8:30 p.m., Geen Community Room

PRISM, the Office of Community Living, and the Office of Multicultural Student Services are pleased to honor LGBT and ally graduates from the Class of 2012.
