Goucher College is celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with the following series of events, activities, and talks:
Trip to Cherry Blossom Festival in DC
Saturday, April 14
Meet in front of Stimson Hall at 9 a.m.; return around 6:45 p.m.
Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates spring in Washington, DC, and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. This trip is organized by the student clubs Lotus and GISA. For more information, contact Michelle Tirto at mitir001@mail.goucher.edu.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Talk
Thursday, April 19
6:45 p.m., Geen Community Center
Jennifer Downs, RN — founding member of the Maryland Acupuncture Society and founder of Pivot Point, an acupuncture and wellness education center in Baltimore — will give a talk on acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Come learn about how these Chinese healing practices can help reduce stress, as well as alleviate physical and emotional difficulties.
MMA Open House and Demonstration
Monday, April 23
9 p.m., SRC Multipurpose Room
Members of Goucher's Mixed Martial Arts Club will present short information sessions about the histories and practices of tae kwon do and muay thai and will then lead the group in interactive demonstrations. Does Meditation Increase Cognitive Skills?

Thinking about trying something new to get you through finals successfully? Charles Seltzer, assistant professor in Goucher's Cognitive Studies Program, will give a presentation on the connections between meditation and cognition, focusing on such skills as memory and focus.
Meditation Talk and Workshop
Friday, May 4
6 p.m., Geen Community Center
Susan Weis, owner of Breathe Books in Hampden, will give a talk about the practices of meditation and mindfulness and will lead the group in a guided meditation workshop.
These events are sponsored by Lotus, the Goucher International Student Association, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Cognitive Studies Program, the Academic Center for Excellence, and the Office of Community Living.
