Environmental Studies Honors & Awards

Departmental Honors in the Major

Honors are decided by a vote of the program faculty just prior to Commencement using the following guidelines:   A student must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in all 200- and 300-level courses that count toward the major. In addition, a student must demonstrate a superior grasp of environmental studies skills and theories, as well as their application, by completing either an academic thesis or a theoretically grounded body of analytical work that includes substantial written documentation.

Awards

The Environmental Studies Prize Fund is awarded to a junior or senior environmental studies major with a 3.5 GPA or higher who has shown outstanding academic achievement.

The Ariel Singer Prize has been established to recognize achievements and/or contributions of a student within the environmental studies program.

The Jennifer Margolis Marquez '01 Prize in Environmental Sustainability is awarded annually to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding innovation and creativity in developing practical application of environmental/ecological sustainability implemented at Goucher College.
