Kevin Schultz

Associate ProfessorChemistry

Kevin Schultz grew up in Rochester, NY and received his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo in 2003.  Deciding to go somewhere even colder (although not as much snow) than western NY for his Ph.D. he moved to Madison, WI for graduate school at the University of Wisconsin.  In 2008 he received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry working under the guidance of Stephen Nelsen.  His thesis research involved the synthesis of stable bishydrazine radicals to investigate electron transfer reactions. While in graduate school he discovered his passion for mentoring science students in research and discovered Goucher College is the perfect environment for this to happen.  Kevin arrived at Goucher in 2008 as a Visiting Assistant Professor.  He transitioned into a tenure track position in 2011 and was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 2017.  Kevin has published his research in a variety of journals including the Journal of the American Chemical Society and most recently with five undergraduate researchers in Tetrahedron Letters.  Kevin was the Summer Research Program Coordinator for three years from 2015-2017.  In the summer of 2015, Goucher hosted the 7th Annual Landmark Conference Summer Research Symposium – a day long research conference that involved over 120 participants.  Kevin has been the Assistant Director for the Center for Natural Sciences and the Chemistry Program Coordinator since 2018.

Kevin currently lives in Lutherville, MD with his wife Kim, two kids Zach and Madelyn, and dog Stella.  He loves doing as much as possible outdoors, including gardening, playing soccer, and hiking.  Other hobbies include home improvement projects and brewing beer.
