Elective Courses

CNF 610
Internship (3 credits)
Experience at a literary journal, a national or regional magazine, a daily or weekly newspaper, a recognized publishing house, or a web-based publisher, or work with a published writer, agent, or editor; 45 contact-hour minimum.

CNF 625
Research & Reporting (3 credits)
Conduct in-depth research, interviews, and reporting under the one-on-one supervision of a faculty mentor or a writing professional with publishing experience. Prerequisites: CNF 601 and 620.

CNF 633
Book Proposal (3 credits)
Craft a book proposal under the one-on-one supervision of a faculty mentor or a writing professional with publishing experience. Prerequisites: CNF 601 and 620.

CNF 635
Reported Memoir (3 credits)
Conduct in-depth research and interviews under the one-on-one supervision of an MFA faculty mentor or a writing professional familiar with the various databases, documents, and resources that can both enrich a memoir and enable students to verify the accuracy of their material. Prerequisites: CNF 601 and 620.

CNF 645
Teaching Internship (3 credits)
Gain teaching experience in one of Goucher's undergraduate creative nonfiction writing classes. Prerequisites: CNF 601, 602, 620,  and 623.

Alumni of the CNF program may take any of the above electives.  New documentation must be completed and submitted to the program.  Click here for form.

Fifth Semester Option

Students may take a fifth semester only after successfully completing four full semesters and submitting a proposal to the program director, explaining why they wish to extend their studies beyond four semesters.

Mentorship V (4 credits)
 
Work with a new faculty member and other students in a workshop to begin a new project or explore a new avenue of an existing manuscript.

CNF 631
Workshop V: Advanced Projects (4 credit)

Work with a new faculty member on the beginning of new project or investigation of a new idea on an existing manuscript.
