Colorado Preservation Inc. was the recipient of a 2011 National Preservation Honor Award, along with USDA Forest Service, for HistoriCorps. The program is a model public/private partnership that puts people to work to save long-neglected historic buildings on public lands. Supported by resources from the U.S. Forest Service and Colorado Preservation, Inc, volunteers put vacant and under-utilized buildings back into public use as vacation rentals, recreation facilities, or interpretative sites.
Arianthé C. Stettner (MAHP 2011) is president of Colorado Preservation and James Hare (MAHP 2001) is their executive director.
David H. Gleason Associates, Inc. and the Preservation Society of Fell's Point recently won the 2011 Stewardship Award from Preservation Maryland for the restoration of the 1790s Academy building in Fell's Point, Baltimore, MD. Richard Wagner, Director and Professor of the MAHP Program, was principal in charge of the restoration for Gleason Associates.
Trent Nichols (MAHP 2010) has published "Protecting the Neighborhood: Historic Preservation and Community development" in the Fall 2011 issue of Forum Journal. The article was based on his master's thesis, and abstract of which can be found here. Trent currently serves as chair of the Wheaton, IL historic district commission.
Ken Breslauer (MAHP 2000) recently published Historic Sites and Architecture St. Petersburg Florida (Outskirts Press, 2011), a highly informative overview of extant and demolished historic sites in one of the nation's original winter playgrounds. The book joins others Ken has authored on historic tourist attractions in Florida and his history of Sebring International Raceway that won the American Auto racing Writers Book of the Year Award. In addition, Ken has written numerous local and National register nominations for sites in and around St. Petersburg.
