For undergraduate Goucher students interested in pursuing advanced degrees in digital arts, Goucher offers accelerated "4+1" degree programs. In this program, students can earn both the Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts in Digital Arts in five years. Students can also accelerate their studies in the Master of Fine Arts program.
Through these programs, students who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and who have attained junior status may take up to nine graduate credits while they are still undergraduates. These nine graduate credits apply to the 120 credits required for the bachelor's degree, as well as to the credits required for the master's degree. The 4+1 programs typically require one to three summers of coursework. For more information, please contact Michael Scott-Nelson, the director of the Digital Arts programs.
Students interested in pursuing the 4+1 degree program should complete these 2 simple steps to become a 4+1 student:
1. Fill out and submit to your undergraduate advisor for signature the 4+1 Dual Degree BA/MA approval form.
2. Once signed by your undergraduate advisor, submit the form along with 2 letters of recommendation and the essay. Digital Arts candidates must also submit a digital art portfolio. All required items should be submitted, via email, to Kathea Smith, Director of Admissions and Recruitment for the Welch Center for Graduate and Professional Studies. Items may also be dropped off at the Welch Center main office in Julia Rogers.
When all required application materials are received we will review the application and be in touch with students about next steps.
