Faculty News from the CDO
Edition: October, 2011Colleagues,
Students often report talking with faculty about their career interests. To assist you in advising these students, we've included a list of upcoming events where students can gather information about employment and internship opportunities, the graduate school application process, and the art of dining during business meals. We invite you to share this information with your students.
Employer Visits to Campus
The CDO is bringing employers to campus to provide students with opportunities to learn about jobs and internships. On Friday, October 21, City Year and In Roads will be on campus and on Friday, November 18, Enterprise Holdings and Environment Maryland will be available to speak to students about opportunities with their organizations. These employers will be available in the Batza room in the Athenaeum from 2-5pm.
The CDO (along with the SGA and the departments of Political Science, Management, and Economics) will be hosting the annual Business Etiquette Dinner on Wednesday, November 9 at 5:30pm in Buchner Hall. The registration deadline for the dinner is Monday, October 31. This is one of our most popular events, so students should reserve their seats as soon as possible by calling x6191 or emailing email@example.com.
There is still time for students to register an internship for fall! The fall II internship deadline is October 21st. The deadline for students to submit an Internship Learning Agreement to the CDO for winter is December 6th.
Graduate School 101
The CDO helps to plan this annual symposium sponsored by the Maryland Career Consortium for students considering graduate study. The event includes panels of admissions representatives and graduate students, as well as workshops on financing grad school, writing personal statements, and preparing for the GRE. This seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, from 4-8 p.m. at Stevenson University's Owings Mills Campus (contact the CDO for transportation details). More information and registration available at http://www.marylandcareerconsortium.org/gradschool101.
Pearl Simon Award
Did you ever talk with a student who has an opportunity to enhance their life, expand their horizons, or learn more about themselves but lacked the resources? Goucher students can apply for a special award which can help to fund these life changing experiences. The Pearl Simon Fund supports activities and projects which promote the emotional growth and development of students. The award is meant to provide a unique opportunity, experience, interaction or exposure to people, a program, or a culture beyond the student's current life experience. Applications are available on the CDO website. Deadline for applications is December 2.
For more information on any of these services or events, contact the Career Development Office (CDO) at firstname.lastname@example.org or x6191.
