About the Goucher Society

At a time when society's acceptance of higher education for women was just emerging, John Franklin and Mary Fisher Goucher led the drive for the establishment of a liberal arts college for women, contributing land and money for the 1885 founding of what would become Goucher College.

The John Franklin and Mary Fisher Goucher Society was established to recognize donors whose contributions to the college honor the evolution of their dream and underwrite the spirit of excellence and innovation that are the hallmarks of a Goucher education.

Donors who contribute a gift or gifts of at least $1,500 or more to any designation to Goucher during a 12 month period (our fiscal year runs July 1-June 30) are recognized as Goucher Society Members. This includes pledges and matching gifts. Within the Goucher Society, the college recognizes young alumnae/I (Young alumnae/I are those who have graduated within the last 15 years) who contribute annually at giving levels scaled according to their gradation year. These levels can be found on our Associate Membership page.

Today, membership in the Goucher Society is more than 400 strong and includes alumnae/i, parents, faculty, staff and friends representing the college’s diverse generations and student backgrounds.

While all types of gifts are greatly valued and count towards your membership, gifts to the unrestricted fund, The Greater Goucher Fund, are a priority for Goucher Society members. The generosity of the members accounts for more than three-fourths of the Greater Goucher Fund, a major portion of which is used to support financial aid and internships, student and faculty research and advancements in technology.
