From the Faculty Nominator: David wrote this paper in Critical Race Theory, exploring the idea of the "outsider within" proposed by sociologist and race theorist Particia Hill Collins. He taps into his own interest in philosophy of science, specifically in the possibility of scientific "revolution" or paradigm shift, to ask: is the "outsider within" really that far "outside" the governing paradigm? Or do we grant her epistemic authority insofar as she is, precisely, "within"? This work demonstrates the intersection of the concerns and methodologies present in analytic epistemology and those at work in contemporary social theory.
