Dr. Dara Friedman-Wheeler joins Psychology faculty

Release date: September 03, 2007

Dr. Friedman-Wheeler did her undergraduate work in Psychology and French at Vassar College.  While she was a student, Dr. Friedman-Wheeler had pursued study abroad in France and also taught English there for a while after she finished her college.

She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at American University in 2005 and finished her clinical internship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF as well in 2006, where she focused on behavioral medicine and low-income populations.  She came to us from the University of Pennsylvania, where she had been in charge of examining the effects of cognitive therapy on people who were both suicidal and dependent on drugs and/or alcohol. She brings some more excitement with her to the department as we await the arrival of her first baby in mid-December.

She says Goucher reminds her of her alma mater, Vassar, and the psychology department is excited to welcome her.
