Student Life Unit Learning Outcomes
Athletics All students on athletic teams:
  1. Through team participation, each student will:
  • Establish lifelong friendships, and
  • Develop respect for individual differences
  1. Each student will contribute to a team culture of cooperation, commitment and self-sacrifice

Team leaders will:

  1. Maintain an intense competitive atmosphere through effective leadership that challenges individuals to succeed
  2. Create an inclusive environment that holds everyone accountable, fosters team wide commitment to excellence, and provides organizational structure to attain goals
Career Development Office (CDO)
  1. Students will define and develop a plan to achieve their career goals
  2. Students will articulate personal goals, strengths and weaknesses, and their interest in an organization/job to employers in both written and verbal formats
  3. Students will exhibit self-reliant behaviors needed to achieve success in their job search
  4. Students will articulate the characteristics of their preferred work environment or position
  5. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the job search process and successfully initiate a job search
  6. Students will learn to conduct themselves professionally when interacting with employers and networking contacts
Office of the Chaplain Bereavement:
  1. Students will learn the stages of grief; they will understand how they themselves experience grief, finding some ways to use this knowledge to cope with their grief
  2. Students will be able to assess their own needs and struggles with grief (with academics, friendships, familial relationships, etc) and articulate ways that they can address these needs
  3. Students will begin to integrate this loss into their identity
  4. Students in the bereavement group will build meaningful relationships with others in the group
  5. Students will be able to help others in the group, as well as other friends. They will learn to share from their own experience in ways that help others.
  6. Students will learn strategies for coping with academic and other expectations (familial, financial, etc.)
Community Living
  1. Students will be able to evaluate the consequences of their actions
  2. Students will be able to formulate ideas while respecting and analyzing the ideas of others
  3. Students will be able to think independently and make decisions for themselves
  4. Students will be able to utilize self-reflection and past experiences to comprehend and interpret their current beliefs
  5. Students will be able to integrate their personal values into their decision making
Community Service
  1. Students will develop their ability to cooperate with and adapt to the needs of the community, including the teachers, non-governmental organization (NGO) staff and K-12 students
  2. Students will develop the communication skills necessary to working cooperatively in a professional setting
  3. Students will develop leadership and professional skills when interacting with the staff members at Goucher and in the schools and NGOs
  4. Students will understand the challenges that urban schools and the NGOs serving them face
Office of Multicultural Student Affairs Through participation in special workshops, career coaching sessions, retreats, and the peer mentoring program, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) scholars (mentees) will:
  1. Develop collaborative relationships with other EOP scholars and other collegiate peers
  2. Develop and enhance their leadership skills and engagement in leadership opportunities on campus
  3. Identify career choices and strengths
  4. Acquire and hone study skills, organizational skills and time management skills
  5. Gain a deeper understanding of the multiple dimensions of diversity and how they are enacted on a college campus
Student Health and Counseling Center Counseling Center

As a result of participation in individual psychotherapy, a student will:

  1. Formulate adaptive coping and stress management skills
  2. Demonstrate an increased level of self awareness
  3. React effectively in interpersonal situations

As a result of attending a psycho educational group/workshop, a student will:

  1. Demonstrate increased awareness of…(the topic at hand) and engages in behaviors that promote health and reduce risk

Health Center

As a result of participating in the HIV/STD testing and counseling program, students will:

  1. Identify risks and prevention measures for HIV and STDs
  2. Make informed choices regarding sexual practices
  3. Act in a socially responsible manner
  4. Formulate a self-evaluation of behavior practices
  5. Identify sexual health resources both on and off campus

As a result of being a peer educator, students will:

  1. Gain understanding of their personal beliefs and how that affects their ability to lead
  2. Demonstrate leadership skills and increase their abilities to guide and assist groups
  3. Evaluate and integrate the information they teach into their own personal practices and attitudes
  4. Acquire knowledge and skills from formal training

  1. Students will engage in the community through program participation
  2. Students will conduct themselves in a responsible and respectful manner
  3. By attending social programs, students will be making a conscious effort to balance their education, work, and leisure time
  4. Students will initiate relationships with others through program participation
