The Politics of Memory
As modern-day Poles attempt to reforge Polish identity and integrity, they must navigate a complicated history that includes their Jewish past, World War II and the Holocaust, resistance to communism, contemporary forms of nationalism, and the rapidly growing Polish diaspora. Students in this course will participate in the Polish discourse and examine how cultural identity is shaped and how it is portrayed in cultural artifacts, monuments, museums, and literature. Applicants must have sophomore standing and a GPA of at least 3.0.
