France: Paris Gateway Program
Type of Program: Semester
City: Paris
When offered: Fall semester only
Cost: See Program Costs page
Goucher College's Paris study program is predicated on the philosophy that the study of a language in the environment of the host culture is the most effective way to achieve the listening, comprehension and speaking skills necessary for a full appreciation of French language and culture. The French capital needs little introduction. Hemingway viewed his stay there as a "moveable feast:" a feast for the eyes, with its old and varied architecture, romantic walks along the Seine; a feast for the spirit with its museums, theatres and galleries. Paris remains a vibrant city today with parks and cafes, movie-houses, jazz clubs, bakeries and open-air markets. The convenient transportation system allows students to explore the city's many neighborhoods at their leisure. Paris has a highly cosmopolitan population, and its central location in Europe provides easy access to other French regions and neighboring countries by train or bus. Students will live in foyers with French and international students.

2013 Academic Dates
Spring 2013: January 24 - May 31
Fall 2013: Late August through Mid-December
Eligibility and Prerequisites
Students must have declared a major and have taken prerequisites for the courses. Students must have completed three semesters in college-level residence. Students with a 2.5 or higher GPA are eligible. Although the successful completion of French 245 remains a prerequisite for enrollment in the Goucher Paris program, able students will be authorized to participate upon recommendation of a French professor. Since French 245 is offered only once a year, this new policy provides greater flexibility for French majors and minors.
