In the spring of 2010, I participated in the Internships in Francophone Europe (IFE) study abroad program in Paris. As a double major in French and Environmental Science, I was able to pursue both of my passions through intensive courses in French society and politics and an internship with the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, and Sustainable Development. During my three month internship, I researched renewable energy development in urban areas, attended conferences, and conducted interviews with experts in the renewable energy sector. This provided me with an international perspective in the technology, policies, and economics behind today’s top renewable energies. I decided to stay in France that summer in order to explore different regions outside of Paris, and I spent 2 months working on organic farms through the organization WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) in the Pyrenees and in Belle-Île-en-Mer, an island off the NW coast of France. Throughout my experiences abroad, I was able to greatly improve my French language skills and left with a warm place in my heart for the culture, food, language, and people that I encountered throughout my travels. It was truly an incredible experience!
