Environmental Studies

"College students are at a prime spot in their life where they know no boundaries," says Sara Peyser '13. As a student, Peyser brought the environmental world at Goucher to new heights: she co-founded the College's most active environmental club, Goucher Energy Action Revolution; she was the sole student director of the Barclay Elementary and Middle School Garden Club, where she planned weekly activities and recruited and supervised the Goucher volunteers; and she proposed and did an internship as Goucher's Environmental Sustainability Coordinator, working closely with faculty and staff to propel Goucher's strategic plan for environmental sustainability and to founded the Green Fund, which is her Goucher legacy.

"It was great I was able to do a test run at Goucher for a career I am interested in pursuing," she said about her internship.

"I love doing fun, off-campus, hands-on environmental experiences," which is why Barclay's Garden Club was such a success and remains so today. "It's a true testament to your field of study if you're able to make it make sense to kids: if you can't make it make sense to the next generation, I think the information is almost useless."

About all of her experiences at Goucher, Peyser says: "I'm still unpacking things that I learned at Goucher, and I know years to come I will continue to be doing that, which is so rewarding."
