Biography

Laura Gurdus Dolid, on the Goucher faculty since 1981, studied at the School of American Ballet for six years where she was trained by Diana Adams, Alexandria Danilova, Muriel Stuart, Felia Doubrovska, Stanley Williams, and Antonia Tumkovsky. Upon graduation, she joined the Pennsylvania Ballet. Following, Ms. Dolid became a member of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and then a soloist with the Israel Ballet. Her teaching career began in Israel and upon returning to the United States she joined the faculty of the Poughkeepsie Ballet Theatre in upstate NY.  Afterwards she taught at the Harkness Ballet in NYC. Since coming to Baltimore in 1981, Ms. Dolid has been on the faculties of The Baltimore Ballet, Peabody Institute and Carver Center for Arts and Technology. In 1985, Ms. Dolid began the dance program at the Sudbrook Arts Centre and continues in that capacity today. She expanded the program in 1990 when she co-founded the Baltimore County Youth Ballet and in 1995 when she established BCYB's Summer Dance at the Sudbrook Arts Centre. In addition to being on the faculty at Goucher,  she is also on the faculty of Peabody Preparatory.  In 2011, Ms. Dolid was awarded a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts to start a boys training program at the Sudbrook Arts Centre.
