Senior Independent-Study Concert

Release date: February 24, 2011

On May 6th at 7:30 PM Goucher Dance will present a night of original work created by senior dance majors Courtney Colarik, Lizbie Harbison and Arlynn Zachary in Independent Studies in Choreography.

Courtney Colarik is seeking to explore the current dialogue about female reproductive rights. Inspired by personal accounts, the work delves into the intense emotions behind abortions; looking at the issue beyond the moral framework the political debate has placed it in. Several relationships will explore the emotions from different angles in this piece, titled vs. Host.

Lizbie Haribison's peice is titled Three True Things. It's inspired by three short excerpts from No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July. There are three short vignettes, all of which touch upon close relationships and how we coincide with those we love, and those we don't.

Arlynn Zachary's Independent Study is based on the exploration of contact improvisation and partnering. Her rehearsals will be filmed and the information gained from watching the dancers on tape will be used to inspire and create experimental-based choreography.
