Special Collections

Hand-colored drawings of British antiquities made by Anglo-Saxonist and art historian John Mitchell Kemble (1807-1857). From the James Wilson Bright Collection, Goucher College Special Collections.

Goucher College’s Special Collections include both rare books and archival research collections. The rare book collection includes incunabulae, antebellum slavery titles, the history of costume, early children’s literature, Baltimoriana, collections of early art and literature, historical travel guides, and works by major American and English writers.  Rare books and manuscript collections may be searched in the college library's online catalog. Select "Advanced Search" and location "Special Collections" to narrow your search.

Other research collections include personal papers, organizational archives, and special subject collections, with particular emphasis on literature, music, theater, and dance. Catalog descriptions of these research collections are gradually being added to the online catalog.
