"Women and Minorities in Hollywood"

Erica Shelton, a writer and producer on the television show HawthoRNe, will give a lecture titled “Women and Minorities in Hollywood,” on Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m. in the Hyman Forum of the Athenaeum.

Shelton’s lecture will examine the role of women and minorities in the film and television industries. She will also discuss the effect the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike had on these groups.

A member of the Writers Guild of America, Shelton has worked on a variety of television programs, including CSI: New York, Close to Home, and Cold Case.

She began her career at the Chicago PBS affiliate, WTTW Channel 11. There she worked on Sneak Previews, a movie review show, and Chicago Tonight, a news analysis program featuring John Callaway and noteworthy guests such as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and former Sen. Carole Moseley Braun. 

Shelton earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of Communication at Northwestern University and a Master of Fine Arts in screenwriting from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. 

The event is sponsored by the Department of Communication and Media Studies, the Peace Studies Program, UMOJA, and the Lectures and Fellowships Committee.
