Three Goucher Teams Play for Landmark Titles

April 29, 2009 |

Goucher's men's lacrosse team is the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference semi-final championship tournament and will host fourth-seeded Scranton on Wednesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. in Gopher Stadium.

Students from all Landmark Conference institutions may attend the game for free with a valid ID card; admission is $5 for everyone else.

The men's lacrosse team hopes to duplicate its 12-2 triumph over Scranton in the semi-finals of the Landmark's inaugural men's lacrosse tournament in 2008 and is out to avenge a 10-9 double-overtime loss to the Royals earlier this season. In addition, the team will be putting its perfect all-time record in home post-season contests on the line. Prior to last year's win over Scranton, the team hosted and won five playoff games while Goucher was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference.

Also on Wednesday, Goucher's women's tennis and women's lacrosse teams will play in two Landmark Conference post-season games.

Goucher's opponent in the semi-finals of the Landmark women's tennis championship tournament will be second-seeded Juniata. The Gophers and Eagles will square off in Huntingdon, Pa., with a starting time of 2:30 p.m.

When the two teams met during the regular season, Juniata came out on top, 6-3.

In women's lacrosse, head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers are the No. 4 seed, which means they face top-seeded Drew in a semi-final on Wednesday in Madison, N.J. Game time is 4 p.m.

During the regular season, the Rangers were victorious in the head-to-head meeting with Goucher, 17-8.

The Gophers last captured a conference title in women's lacrosse in 1996, when Goucher was still in the CAC. Goucher has never been conference champion in men's lacrosse or women's tennis.
