In 1990, a group of students created CAUSE (Community Auxiliary for Service) to channel the campus's growing interest in community service. The CAUSE office and mailbox are located in the student club office space in Pearlstone. Open meetings are held monthly, and in September CAUSE sponsors a "mini-fair" where students can meet team leaders and representatives of the service agencies.
The Community Auxiliary Service club, better known as CAUSE, is an umbrella organization on campus for many types of community service projects. You can get involved two ways, as a CAUSE member or part of a CAUSE Team.
CAUSE Member: Come to our meetings, Sundays at 9 pm in Geen, to help organize campus wide events sponsored by CAUSE like Hunger and Homelessness week.
Member of a CAUSE Team: Participate in reoccurring projects such as Habitat for Humanity Saturday trips, Blood Drives, or Tutoring.
Habitat for Humanity – Sandtown-Winchester
Take a trip to Sandtown-Winchester, a neighborhood in Northwest Baltimore City, to help families build their first homes. Be prepared to get dirty and give your all.
American Red Cross Blood Drive
There are several ways to help at the Red Cross blood drives. You can sign up to donate blood and help save up to three lives. You can also work at the welcome table or the canteen.
Timothy House
The Timothy House, located in Towson, is an affordable housing community for the elderly. Volunteers visit with residents and engage in recreational activities such as Bingo. In the past, volunteers have also played the piano and danced for the residents.
