Volunteer Opportunities
AAGC Board of Directors
This group of seasoned volunteers is comprised of 18 elected members, including three alumnae/i trustees, who serve three-year terms. They work by committee on a number of issues impacting the alumnae/i body, including community service, admissions, class leadership, the Alumnae & Alumni Fund, regional activities, young alumnae/i programming, and communications such as the Quarterly.
Class Fund Managers and Agents
Managers lead the class Alumnae & Alumni Fund campaign. Managers recruit and work with a team of Agents to set annual class goals (particularly during reunion years), craft class appeals, and promote personal contact in the solicitation of each classmate. They are also expected to lead by example by making their own gift to the Fund.
Agents assist the Manager in achieving a high level of class participation in the class Fund gift. They extend a personal soliciation by phone or mail to classmates, and are each expected to give to the Annual Fund.
Class Officers
Led by the class president, this group of volunteers works with other members of the class leadership team which includes the fund manager and agents, Quarterly representative, and reunion chair. Together they work on giving the class cohesion and fostering enthusiasm through a series of communications to all classmates throughout the year.
Event Programming
Volunteers can assist the Alumnae/i Office staff with planning and implementing events in cities around the country. Volunteers provide ideas and suggestions to staff for upcoming events in their cities, including museum exhibits, concerts, and other happenings.
Goucher Associates Committee
The Goucher Associates Committee is composed of representatives from the last 15 classes. The Committee works to increase participation in the Annual Fund and works on specific projects such as communications, senior class gift, and leadership gifts. They are also encouraged to attend one young alumnae/i event per year, and to each make their own gift to the Alumnae & Alumni Fund.
Host Program
The Host Program pairs Baltimore-area alumnae/i with current Goucher first-year students from across the country and around the world. The program is designed to welcome freshmen to Baltimore and ease their adjustment to a new environment. Throughout the academic year hosts plan activities that they can enjoy with their student. Activities may include: a home-cooked meal, a sightseeing trip in and around Baltimore, an offer to provide transportation to the airport or train station around the holidays, an Orioles or Ravens game, a night out at dinner and the movies. For more information please see the Host Program webpage.
Go-pher Volunteers
Go-pher Volunteers help with office operations, from labeling envelopes to assisting with registration during on-campus events such as Alumnae/i Weekend. Gopher volunteers typically spend an afternoon in the office on these tasks.
In addition, Go-pher volunteers occasionally serve as greeters at events in their area, whether in Baltimore or around the country. As greeters, they attend an event and welcome other attendees to the venue, and they may also be asked to distribute nametags or perform other small event-related tasks.
Goucher Quarterly Representatives
These volunteers gather and compile classmate news and write their Class Notes column for each issue of the Goucher Quarterly.
Reunion Committees
Classmates can volunteer on numerous committees to plan and execute class events, including parties, dinners, brunches, other events in conjunction with Alumnae/i Weekend. The committee encourages classmates to attend by drafting three letters during the year and making personal phone calls. In addition, they may work with the class fundraising team to encourage participation in the class Annual Fund gift.
